Action movies are quite well-loved; they captivate the viewers’ imagination with their suspenseful storylines, lots of beautiful women, and fight scenes that leave us amazed and wanting more. Classic action movies follow the story of a protagonist and their fight against time to save a damsel in distress, or even more biblical, save the world from would-be bad guys.
Many people would assume that action films are just your average motion picture sequences full of special effects that make it to the box office because of the fandom and hype in this particular genre but in reality, these films are made after countless hours of work, research, acting, and a whole lot of stunts.
The world of action movies holds a lot of secrets and today we’re breaking down just a few of them.
1. “The Last Crusade” Used Real Nazi Uniforms
When it comes to movies, critics are quick to point out any historical inaccuracy. With “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” however, they are often left hanging since the film closely follows real-world events. Despite being a fiction-based film, it still manages to wow the audience by paying close attention to small details like the storyline to the costumes. Costume designer Anthony Powell went above and beyond to get his hands on not just historically accurate Nazi uniforms but went so far as to get real ones used by the Germans. He then used these authentic uniforms in the iconic ‘burning book’ scene.
2. “Die Hard III” Caught the FBI’s Eye
The “Die Hard” franchise happens to be one of the most loved action series of all time. Due to its funny one-liners and epic action scenes, the audience was hooked - and so was the FBI. As it turns out, the film’s writers were reportedly contacted by the FBI because of the amount of information regarding the Federal Reserve that was incorporated in the plotline. Jonathan Hensliegh, the screenwriter, assured the FBI that he visited the Reserve himself and was not, as was seemingly alleged, working for terrorists.
3. “The Pirates of the Caribbean” Went to School
Believe it or not, there’s a school for everything - even for pirates. The cast of the beloved “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise had to actually attend a school to learn how to become a proper pirate. They were trained on how to use weapons, practice safety, and the proper techniques regarding the use of cannons and swords.
